Chaparral District

General Scouting Links

Overview

This site supports the Scouting activities of the Chaparral District within the South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts of America

There are more than 60 units in the Chaparral District, providing the Scouting Program to over 1,700 youth members. These units are sponsored by local schools, churches and civic organizations. Scouts benefit the local community through service projects, Eagle projects and area wide “Good Turns” like Scouting for Food and other community service projects.

The district also hosts the Tasiwoo (Bison) chapter of the Nakona Lodge of Scouting's national honor society, the Order of the Arrow, an excellent way to involve exemplary Scouts in service to their units, the district, council and community.

District Contacts and Information

Field Director Travis Rubelee and our District Executive Eric Escamilla share staff coverage on behalf of the Council for our District. They can be contacted via the Council Office as listed on the South Plains Council Web site, or directly by email at

Matthew Wade is the District Chairman, and Ray Copeland serves as District Commissioner. Alan Sill serves as Order of the Arrow Chapter Advisor.

As a general guide, unless listed differently in the calendar shown to the right, District Committee meetings are held the first Thursday evening of each month beginning 7:00 pm at The Atmos Energy Office, 5110 80th (one block east of Slide Road). Come in using the engineering entrance on the northwest corner of the building.

Roundtables are generally held the second Thursday evening of each month beginning 7:00 pm at the 1st & 2nd Ward Church of Jesus Christ of the LDS at 3211 58th St. in Lubbock. This is a great way for ALL adult leaders and youth interested in improving the value and quality of the Scouting program for their units to learn how to do so.  Order of the Arrow chapter meetings are also held at the same time and evening at the same location.
